Lil Blader by sculptor Nilda Comas“HOWARD STILLMAN BATES FOUNDATION DONATES STATUE TO COLLEE HAMMOCK”
A community newsletter published by the City of Ft.Lauderdale
February/March 2001
Orginal Document can be found here

Standing four feet tall on a platform, Li’l Blader- a life-size bronze statue of a young girl—seems to be posing for the camera as she twirls around on her roller blades. She’s innocent, sassy and has skated her way into the City of Fort Lauderdale’s Colee Hammock Park.

The Howard Stillman Bates Foundation, named after its founder, donated the 200-pound statue to the City of Fort Lauderdale. Bates, who purchased the statue from its creator Nilda Maria Comas, said his sole purpose for the statue was to “give it to an organization worthy of its beauty.”

“Nilda creates wonderful works of art and this one shows the fun-loving life of a beautiful child,” he said. “I wanted to donate it to the City, specifically to Colee Hammock Park, because of the children I’ve observed having a great time playing there.”

Appleton's new exhibit traces four generations of artists continuing a legacy

 BY LASHONDA STINSON
THE OCALA STAR-BANNER

The theme of the Appleton Museum of Art's latest exhibition is almost reminiscent of a secret family recipe.

It started with one French painter. Then moved on to his protégé, who came to the United States and taught it to another, who then passed the tradition on to the next generation.
"It" is an artistic style drawing from the old masters that's rooted in the age-old skill of drawing and the technique of the human form. How this artistic legacy has ... click here for complete story

Nilda Receives Grant

In 2009, Nilda Comas received an ECD grant to establish an art program for "The Partnership for the Homeless" at their facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  After 9 months she organized "The Art of Hope Exhibition."  It was a great success and most of the students' art work was sold.  The ECD grant was extended through the summer for an additional 4 weeks of workshops at her "The Legacy Art Studio."  The culmination of this extension resulted with another successful "The Art of Hope Exhibit."

Nilda As Judge

In 2009, Nilda Comas served as judge for the "Fine Arts for Ocala" sponsored by the Appleton Museum in Ocala, Florida.
